The Miami Dolphins signed Anthony Johnson to an undrafted free agent contract within a few hours after the NFL draft ended.
Johnson, who had been projected to go in the middle rounds before the NFL combine, fell of draft boards because of a failed drug test. Now, with no label as a draft pick, he has almost no protection and will have to fight and claw his way to make the team.
"Honestly I was prepared for the worst (but) at the end of the day the Lord had my favor in his hands and I'm blessed to be a part of the Miami Dolphins organization," said Johnson to NOLA.com just before a three-hour training session with kids at Saints' cornerback Keenan Lewis' football camp on the West Bank this past weekend. "Miami is a great situation where I can learn from guys like Cameron Wake and Randy Starks," Johnson said. "I'm just trying to better myself as a player on and off the field."
During offseason workouts, Johnson has impressed the coaches and his teammates. More specifically, he has displayed his quickness and explosion that many saw during his college years at LSU. He now hopes to carry that over into training camp and prove to everyone in Miami and back home that he belongs in the NFL.
