Branden Albert was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Since then, he has played with the Chiefs until he came to the Miami Dolphins this past offseason as a free agent. Now, with the Dolphins set to play the Chiefs on Sunday, many have been wondering if Albert is looking at this game a little differently or if he’s preparing like it’s any other game.
“It means nothing. Another win for the Miami Dolphins to try and get this week,” Albert said. It was tough to leave, but the Dolphins wanted me here and I’m here now. The situation, at the time, I had to go. I’m going to be a little relieved to get it out of the way because everybody is hyping it up as you can see. I just want the next W.”
Albert went up against the Chiefs defensive line in practice but he says he really can’t remember much of the stuff the guys on that side of the line did. While he will try to help the other guys on the Dolphins offensive line, he doesn’t know for sure how much he can help them.
“I can’t remember anything they did last year. That’s the honest truth. I think I’ve been hit in the head too many times and I can’t remember anything (joking). On a personnel tip, some of the guys I can help, but with some of the stuff they do, I can’t remember to be honest with you.”
“Their whole team is good. I’ve been there. Like I said, for six years, those guys are some fighters. Even though whatever their record is right now, those guys are not going to give up. On both sides of the ball, they’ve got good players. They’re going to come in here with a fighting mentality and we’re got to have a fighting mentality, too.”
Some players circle the calendar when they face off against their former team or against bitter rivals but Albert said that he didn’t do anything like that when the schedule came out.
“No, I actually didn’t. I joke around, but I really didn’t. It is what it is. It’s another game for us to win as a Miami Dolphin. We’re trying to go 2-1. We’re going on to the next game and that’s what we’re going to do.”
Albert has proven to be one of the best left tackles in the NFL two weeks into the season and will look to continue his dominance on Sunday against his former team. After all, it’s just another game.
