Several weeks ago, Caleb Sturgis, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, suffered a groin injury and since then, hasn’t participated much in practice or in a a game. Now, with John Potter in camp and making his kicks, Sturgis is losing hold on his roster spot and his frustration level is starting to mount.
"I don't want to talk about all that stuff," Sturgis said today as he left the field and was asked about his status.
In today’s practice, Potter connected on field goals of 42, 44, and 47 yards. He missed a 51-yarder when it hit the left upright. During the Tampa Bay game, he connected on two field goals for 48 and 51 yards, respectively.
The kicker position is one that can be replaced pretty easily and Sturgis should be worrying about his roster spot for the upcoming season. It is quite possible that the Dolphins put him on injured reserve to save him and give him a chance to compete once again in camp next year.
