![]() Written by Matthew Cannata | Twitter: @PhinManiacs During Friday's preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, running back Damien Williams suffered what appeared to be a pretty bad injury after being tackled in an awkward position. Williams couldn't walk off the field and had to be carted to the locker room. Right away, many assumed his season was done. However, beginning with Sunday's practice, Williams was not listed on the practice injury report and did some running drills on the side. On Monday, he was limited but was also seen fielding punt and kickoff returns. Today, he was more active and catching passes. “Anybody wants to get out there and compete,” Williams said. “In my case, I have a lot to prove and I can’t do that by sitting on the side. “I was just hoping it wasn’t serious — that’s the first thing that comes to mind. Because I was having a great camp. I want to have a great pre-season. To come to find out everything’s fine, I’ll be back as soon as people think.” Williams has a good shot to beat out Daniel Thomas, Orleans Darwka and Mike Gillislee for the third running back spot behind Lamar Miller and Knowshon Moreno. Time will tell if he ends up with the job. |
