Daryn Colledge did the right thing following the game against the Kansas City Chiefs and didn’t point fingers to different areas of the locker room when he was talking about why the offense has struggled the past two games but of course, more specifically, the game against the Chiefs.
“I mean obviously I can fall back on the offensive line right away. We need to protect better. This was a game where we needed to throw the ball a lot and we didn’t protect the quarterback well enough. So that falls on our shoulders.”
The line gave up four sacks on Sunday, the most they’ve given up in the season so far. However, there was constant pressure on Ryan Tannehill throughout most of the entire game with plenty of missed assignments on the line.
“You know I haven’t had a chance to look at the statistics, but I’m assuming we took quite a few drop backs and you take that many drop backs, eventually somebody’s going to get home,” Colledge said. “We have to do better on first and second down so we’re not getting ourselves in those situations. We had a chance to win in the fourth quarter and just didn’t get it done.”
There have been quite a few concerns already about the confidence of Ryan Tannehill as he has looked hesitant in the pocket and has been missing reads all over the field. However, Colledge doesn’t believe that it’s a problem at this time.
“I think Ryan (Tannehill) is bigger than that. I’m not really concerned about his attitude moving forward, I think he knows what needs to get done and I think he’s going to look for, just like everyone on offense, that he needs to do something better and have something to work on this week. We have a situation where we have to find out what we did wrong and clean that up because we have ourselves a road game this week when we go to England to play Oakland. So we have to find a way to get this thing 2-2 by the end of the first quarter of the season.”
If the Dolphins don’t go 2-2 to start the season, the questions will get tougher and louder and the possibility of major change will be on the table.
