One of the unique things that Joe Philbin brought to the team when he became head coach was the fact that they didn’t have permanent captains. Instead, three players were selected each week based on their performance during the week and depending on the circumstances of each game. This year though, Philbin and his coaching staff have decided that they would have three permanent captains throughout the season.
“We talked about it throughout the course of the spring. We had some discussions as a whole team, players, coaches, and we decided that we were going to move more to a permanent captain position, and we all voted. We’ve been talking all along about we have one team. The coaches and the players, we are all going to vote and we are all going to have a say, and that’s what we did.”
On the offensive side of the ball, Ryan Tannehill was named captain and on defense, Cameron Wake was named. On Special Teams, Jason Trusnik was named a captain. These three will lead the team each week for the coin toss and will also serve as leaders, in addition to the newly formed leadership group that the team also has.
