For two straight years, Lamar Miller was given every possible chance to take hold of the lead running back position and be the featured man on offense. However, he failed to do that both years – in 2013 and now, in 2014. Of course, with the way we saw Knowshon Moreno run on Sunday, it’s tough to beat that out but the fact remains that Miller has been stuck in a two running back system his entire career and looks to be headed down that road heading into the future as well. To his credit, he’s embracing that fact.
"I think it's good to have two running backs," Miller told the Sun-Sentinel. "We go off each other for the most part. If I'm in the game and I come out, he keeps the game going. Or, if he comes out and I come in, I try to keep the game going as well so I feel it helps both of us."
One of the reasons why Moreno plays more snaps than Miller is because of his ability to break tackles and bring fire and leadership to the playing field.
"He brings good energy to the game, to the team, and he's enthusiastic," Philbin said. "He likes the game, likes to compete. We've seen some of those things in the practice field. Obviously, we don't tackle a lot on the practice field, but I'm not surprised he broke some tackles."
The bruising running style of Moreno appears to have rubbed off on Miller, as he started to run very hard in the second half and knocked over several defenders in his rushing attempts.
"For one game, I can think of some second-and-two or third-and-one (carries) early in the game where he put his shoulder down and pushed the thing forward, and got it," Lazor said. "I feel like since we've been playing real games here that Lamar's shown the ability to understand when it's time to put his shoulder down and go, and that he's done it. I'm expecting big things from him."
"I have no doubt that Lamar Miller and Knowshon Moreno are both going to contribute," he said. "I'm happy with where we've started with both of them. The question about who takes the first snap, now it's on my mind. But I hadn't considered it really yet."
