Louis Delmas played for the Detroit Lions for five years and his career there was riddled with injuries. This, of course, was one of the primary reasons why he was allowed to walk away this offseason but as the saying goes, another man’s trash is another man’s treasure and that’s exactly what the Miami Dolphins have found with Delmas roaming the back end of their secondary.
“I love the way he comes to work every day,” Joe Philbin said. “He’s an upbeat positive individual. He plays the game the right way. He plays fast and there’s very little hesitation in his game. He’s done a good job for us. I think he’s fit into the locker room well. I enjoy being around him every day.”
Delmas, who missed practice quite often in Detroit, has not missed a practice according to Philbin and has been on the field just about every day working. This took some Lions beat reporters on the conference call by surprise because they had been so used to seeing Delmas on the sideline.
Off the field, Delmas brings just as much energy and leadership. Cameron Wake talked a little about him and pointed out the amount of energy he brings to the locker room.
“He’s a firecracker, ball of energy, very passionate about everything that he does, a tremendous asset for us on defense. Probably one of the guys who, he may be a DB (defensive back) size, but he’s definitely a D-Lineman (defensive lineman) with his body. I mean it doesn’t matter what kind of guy he’s tackling or going up to set the edge against O-Linemen (offensive linemen), he’s going to go up there and throw his body in there and make it happen. Great great asset to our team and great addition and like I said I’m glad he’s on our side of the ball.”
Let’s hope that Delmas can continue to stay healthy and continue to be that presence that the Dolphins desperately need both on and off the field.
