![]() Written by Matthew Cannata | Twitter: @PhinManiacs Against the New England Patriots in week one, the Miami Dolphins offense had several explosive plays, which sparked the offense and helped the move the chains down the field. The new offense left a great taste in everyone’s mouth and we were all excited to see what they would do in week 2 against the Buffalo Bills. However, the offense that game looked eerily similar to the Dolphins offense last year and they made very little impact. Now, the team is trying to get back to the basics and get those explosive plays that are needed in every game. “I think we had three in the game on Sunday. I believe Buffalo maybe had six, if I’m not mistaken. It’s really the week before when we ran for 190-some odd yards, it’s hard to do when your longest is 15 (yards). Usually you are ripping off a 40-yarder or 50-yarder. On a positive side, it speaks to a lot to the consistency that we had two weeks ago, but, on the downside, we do have to break more tackles. I talked to the guys today about what’s going to be really important is winning the perimeter matchups.” “When we get a (running) back or a receiver in space, we’ve got to break a tackle. We have to get some yards after contact. We’ve got to make somebody miss us. It’s not always, certainly we would love to hit a 50-yard pass in the air. That would be great, but we want to get the ball to our players in space on the move when they can run with it. Then they have to do something, too. That’s where you really get the bonuses when you throw a 12-yard pass and it turns into a 30-yard completion because you break a tackle and make somebody miss.” One thing that I’m confident in is Bill Lazor and his ability to adjust. He took the majority of the blame for the offensive production, or lack thereof, and I truly believe he will have it fixed heading into Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. |
