The Miami Dolphins will receive a big boost today when Reshad Jones returns to the team but should we be tempering our expectations that he will play right away when the Miami Dolphins play the Green Bay Packers on October 12? If that's what you want, then Joe Philbin said he's ready to listen to you and take your advice.
“We’ll see. If you want him in nickel, we’ll get him in nickel if that’s what you think is the best role for him. I’m just kidding. Yeah, we’ll see. I wouldn’t rule anything out, anything is possible.”
Of course, on a more serious note, defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle said that they will see how he's doing from a conditioning standpoint and then will move as quickly as possible to get him back in the mix.
“First, we see how he is from a conditioning standpoint and then as quickly as we can (get him back into the mix). He’s an outstanding player, a guy that’s made a lot of contributions to our defense and we’ll try to figure out how we can package certain groupings to our advantage."
"I think ultimately having gone through this, our depth is going to be better than it’s been with Jimmy (Wilson) having the experience that he has at safety, with Louis (Delmas) doing what he’s done, with Michael Thomas having played a role at different times. You saw Walt Aikens make a great play yesterday in the latter part of the game. Ultimately, with Reshad coming back, with Koa (Misi) getting back in the mix, the depth will certainly be better than it’s been. We want to get him up to speed as fast as possible. He’s a playmaker, he can be a difference maker for us.”
So it appears that if everything works out as it should, Jones will be starting against the Packers. That means Jimmy Wilson will move back to the slot position and either Will Davis or Jamar Taylor will move to the bench and the fifth cornerback spot on the team.
