It's truly amazing to see a player grow up right in front of your eyes. Although we've seen flashes of greatness from Ryan Tannehill over the past two years, it was never as consistent as it has been this year. At this point, it's safe to say that Tannehill has a bright future ahead of him.
“I like the way his demeanor is," Bill Lazor said. "I feel like he’s gained some calm in the pocket and he is a fierce competitor. He’s intense about his job, but, at the same time, when it comes to the passing game, I just feel the game getting to a speed that he can handle. Handle isn’t the right word, the way he is handling himself out there on the field because I think that takes a lot of factors into it. I think Ryan is getting better. I think he’s playing with control. I have a lot of confidence he’s only going to get better. He’s a competitor. He likes to run the ball. I think he’s feeling better and better about what we are doing in the pass game. Obviously, we didn’t have enough yesterday. We need a little more.”
Maybe one of the only complaints people could find about Tannehill on Sunday was the tipped interception at the end of the game on Sunday. However, to most fans and to Lazor, it was hard to blame him for what went wrong on that play.
“It’s hard to say. Maybe a TV copy would have shown better where exactly their hands were and exactly how it happened. I know it was a contested play. I think, if you would ask Ryan, he probably would tell you he wishes the play went differently, but he was doing what he thought was right. He’s done the same thing to that same guy many times and it has worked out. I don’t think we can look back on that one. It was unfortunate. That kind of game where you are going blow-for-blow, there’s a low margin of error. We have to find a way to avoid those mistakes.”
The future appears to be bright with Tannehill under center and under the direction of Bill Lazor, the sky is the limit for what he can accomplish. He'll look to continue his impressive performances against the New York Jets on Monday.
