Ryan Tannehill had one of his best games of his career on Sunday against the Chicago Bears as he went 25 for 32 with 277 yards and 2 touchdowns. In addition to that, he added in 48 yards on 6 rushing attempts from the read-option play. Tannehill has now played pretty good football for six consecutive quarters, going back to the second half against the Green Bay Packers. Joe Philbin was impressed with his play and doesn’t plan to hold him from running in the coming weeks.
“He’s a good athlete and he makes good decisions. When you combine those two things, we’re not looking to run him 30 times a game, but if it’s there and that’s what the defense gives us the ability to use his speed and athleticism is a plus.”
A quarterback doesn’t have a 78.1% completion percentage without the help of his skill players making the tough and easy catches. In addition, one doesn’t have it without good decision making. Tannehill had both going for him against the Bears.
“I just thought he had really good command throughout the game,” Philbin said. “I don’t know that any one sticks out. Obviously the fourth-and-one play and his decision involved there. You have to make the right decision and obviously he did and made a big play. Obviously they came out in the second-half, put the ball in the end-zone their opening possession and I really liked the way our offense responded and took command of the football game.”
We’ll see if Tannehill can continue to play at a high level when they travel to Jacksonville for their game on October 26.
