After a lot of controversy regarding who will be named the starting quarterback for the game in London against the Oakland Raiders, current starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill has finally come out and given his point of view on this whole mess.
“Obviously, it doesn’t feel good,” Tannehill said regarding his status being in jeopardy, “It creates a bunch of stir and a bunch of distraction in the locker room, mostly from the outside coming in, and guys having to deal with the distraction of it. So it’s not a good feeling but he’s been clear with me and I know where I stand.”
Tannehill stated that he's been getting texts of support from pretty much everyone he ever knew, and that's how he found out that his status was in jeopardy at all in the first place. Not long after that, head coach Joe Philbin went to Tannehill and explained what was going on.
“And then coach came to me and was clear, and he told me what he said and why he said it. But he was clear with me on my standing and my position in the game. He has his reasons, as does everyone.”
Tannehill asked Philbin why he handled the situation the way he did, and Philbin told him. When Tannehill was asked what Philbin said, he didn't answer.
“You’re going to have to get that from him,” Tannehill said.
But Tannehill did admit that he wishes Philbin had handled things differently than he did.
“Honestly, yes,” he said. “Does it feel good to deal with all the distractions that have been created because of the situation? No. That’s life. You face distractions, you face adversity in life and have to be able to handle it. You have to be able to fight through it and become a better man, become a better player because of it. So here we are and we’re getting ready to play.”
This whole week has been chaotic for the team as rumblings around the fan base, the media and the team itself get louder and louder as rumors and controversy continue to swirl around the franchise. But as the old saying goes, "winning cures everything." and the Dolphins have a prime opportunity to take advantage of that against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.
