The Finsiders recently discussed Ryan Tannehill and what we can expect from him heading into the 2014 season. In 2013, Tannehill threw for over 3900 yards, 24 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. A big part of whether or not Tannehill has success this year will be dependent on the new offense under offensive coordinator Bill Lazor.
“This is a big year for myself and the team. We have a new offense so we are all learning together – just the simple stuff such as where to line up and so forth. Some people think it’s not a big deal but two yards can make a huge difference.”
Collectively, the entire unit has to buy into the offense but The Finsiders panel believes that Tannehill will thrive in this offense. It is designed to get rid of the ball quickly, there are multiple formations, multiple opportunities for him to move around and use his athleticism, and much more. In addition, the receivers will be moving around a lot before the snap to confuse defenses and to make sure they’re not lining up in the same spot every play.
While Tannehill has had mixed results during the offseason so far, he said that when you run through these plays the first few times in practice, it might not be pretty and it takes time to get the formations and the plays right and to get everyone on the same page.
With training camp a little over a week away, we’ll be able to see how Tannehill and the entire offense develops throughout camp and hopefully can get a full understanding of this offense heading into the first week against the New England Patriots.
