Make no mistake about today's game against the Baltimore Ravens - the Miami Dolphins will have their hands full and it should be a dog fight until the very end. The Ravens are a physical team and the Dolphins will need to match that intensity. If they don't, they'll risk being blown out of the game both physically and mentally.
Leading up to the game, several players talked about the challenges of facing the Ravens. Dion Jordan talked about Joe Flacco and what makes him a great quarterback.
“It’s a lot of things. Flacco, as far as pure quarterbacks, he’s definitely one of the top out there, his arm strength. He has very good receivers. It looks like he’s just a playmaker. I played against him last year, he made a couple of good passes. Just from watching film on him, he’s just a good playmaker," he said. "Their running back has definitely stepped up and he’s doing well for them. He’s a good complement for (Joe) Flacco.”
Samson Satele spoke on the Ravens defense and especially their defensive line. He noted that they have big guys in both the middle and the outside and can stop the run from anywhere on the field.
“It comes down to us in the middle I think, the two guards and myself, to do a great job of holding the pocket up front, maybe a yard or two and just letting the tackles run those two great D-ends (defensive ends) by the quarterback, by Ryan (Tannehill). Every game, it comes down to us. That’s the way I feel about it. I like it, that’s why I play this position. Like I said, me and the two guards have to do a great job this game in holding the big guys up front.”
One of Joe Philbin's biggest concerns is Justin Forsett. The Dolphins run defense has been very bad the past two weeks and they'll need to do much better if they want to stand any chance today against the dangerous Ravens offense because he knows just how good they can be.
“Part of that (is) their offensive line has done a really nice job, and their tight ends blocking and giving him that opportunity. I think what we would call our block protection, which is, number one, maintaining your gap without giving up too much space, and, number two, separating from the block, those are going to be big things in the ball game. There are a lot of pictures. They have a lot of explosive runs. He’s been the main guy with it. Some of them, he’s created on his own, but there certainly has been some really good blocking, too.”
We'll find out soon enough how this game plays out but it sounds like the Dolphins are ready to roll!
