Ian Rappaport of the NFL Network is reporting that Miami Dolphins defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers is expected to join new head coach Todd Bowles in New York as a member of the Jets. Rodgers will be the defensive coordinator.
Rodgers has coached for four years as a member of the Dolphins’ coaching staff, having joined the club after a five-year stint with the Dallas Cowboys (2003-07), the final three of which he coached their defensive line. He is well respected among players in the NFL and of course, especially on the Dolphins. Some had been privately calling for his promotion to defensive coordinator in place of Kevin Coyle.
Per NFL rules, the Dolphins can block Rodgers from interviewing with another team because it is not a promotion to head coach. It is not known at this time whether or not the team will block him from moving on. If they do allow him to move north, he will bring his expertise up north and will face the Dolphins twice a year in his new position.
