![]() Written by Matthew Cannata | Twitter: @PhinManiacs While the defensive line wasn’t able to get much going in the first half, their high motor and persistence led them to making a huge difference in the second half. Most notably, it was defensive end Cameron Wake, who finished the day with 3 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. For Wake though, this victory began to take shape back in April. “Well, we’ve been starving since April. You know, that’s where it started. It started way back in April. You know, you look around this locker room and you have guys who bought in,” he said. “We had 99% attendance in voluntary workouts, literally, guys bought in from then, and since that day we’ve been working toward the home opener, and as I said, we came in here and got it done.” Wake believes that their resiliency and ability to come back from deficits will help them throughout the season as he feels that there are a lot of tough guys on the team with a lot of character. “Well, I don’t know if that’s fortunate or unfortunate, but even in preseason we had games where we were down at half time and had to come back. It just shows, like I said, the character of the team. Everybody kind of bought in, put their backs against the wall, and fought their way out. Whatever situation it was, whatever you had to do, in your individual effort, you had to get it done. When everybody does their job, the team plays better as a whole, and we got the job done today.” Wake has been the star of the defense for the past several years and it doesn’t look like he is slowing down any time soon. Whenever Wake is on the field, you never know what’s going to happen as he has the ability to change the game every time the ball is snapped.
