![]() Written by Luis Sung | Twitter: @FLSportDebater Former second-round draft pick Daniel Thomas seemed to be on his way to getting cut by the Miami Dolphins due to his failure to live up to his draft status. In addition, his apparent inability to stay healthy has also been a concern, as he's once again suffered an injury - this one to his hamstring. Due to the injury, he has been unable to participate for the majority of training camp. However, head coach Joe Philbin recently suggested that Thomas may still have a shot to make the team. “I think he’s a good fit,” Philbin said. “I thought he was having a good camp and hopefully we can get him some game action soon.” Philbin feels that Thomas could be a good fit for offensive line coach John Benton's zone blocking scheme, which at first glance doesn't seem to make much sense as Thomas hasn't shown much to prove this statement. The Dolphins have other candidates available to take Thomas' roster spot, such as Damien Williams or Orleans Darkwa, as well as Mike Gillislee who has also been nursing a hamstring injury. But Philbin seems adamant that there isn't necessarily a limited amount of spots at the RB position. “I don’t want to get pigeon-holed to say we’re going to keep four, we’re only going to keep three or five,” Philbin said. “It could be five.” It doesn't seem practical to keep five running backs when the Dolphins have much better talent at a lot of other positions, but perhaps the Dolphins coaches know something that everyone else doesn't. It seemed that Daniel Thomas' career in Miami was over, but this statement suggests that he still has one life left.

I just don't see it. Williams has shown the ability to run with both speed and power. I have to think this is a way to get some trade value for Thomas.
