There have been a number of rumors as to who the Miami Dolphins will select with the 18th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft next week in Cleveland. Many fans and media members have speculated that the pick will be Alabama running back Najee Harris or an edge rusher, most notably Kwity Paye or Jaelan Phillips. Here are some dark-horse prospects that are not Harris, or an edge rusher that Miami could select 18th overall.
Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa
Collins may be the most likely option if he is available and Miami \ decides to pass up on Harris and an edge rusher. The release of Kyle Van Noy makes the pick of Collins intriguing as he can do everything Van Noy did. Even with the emergence of Andrew Van Ginkel, he and Collins would make a formidable duo. Collins has the versatility, work ethic and the instincts to be a great addition to the Dolphins
Teven Jenkins, OT, Oklahoma State
Jenkins is a long shot to be drafted by the Dolphins at 18 since Miami just signed D.J. Fluker while also having Austin Jackson and Robert Hunt. That being said, Miami could move Hunt inside so they could draft Jenkins. As a player, Jenkins is everything Miami looks for in an offensive lineman. He is a mauler and one of the meanest and aggressive offensive linemen in this draft and would be a good addition to Miami’s already young and aggressive offensive line.
Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU
The Dolphins love versatile players (as said above) and Moehrig brings another level of versatility that Brain Flores would love. He has the ability to play in the box (he is a willing tackler), in the slot, as well as line up as a high safety and excel at each of them early on in his career.
A safety duo of both him and Brandon Jones would be one of the more versatile safety duos in the NFL. Moehrig has the potential to be a Reshad Jones type player for Miami with the addition of playing special teams.
