![]() Written by Matthew Cannata | Twitter: @PhinManiacs One of the traits that the Dolphins front office and coaching staff have sought out in players is versatility. We see many players on the roster - both on offense and defense - who can play numerous positions and play them well. This year, at least on defense, Kevin Coyle said that there will again be numerous roles for various players. One of them is defensive lineman Derrick Shelby. “We’ve nicknamed him Trigger because every time Derrick gets in the game he just makes plays,” Coyle said. “He’s so consistent. He’s a hard worker, nothing flashy, but you like to have guys like that. He’s played both spots [defensive end and defensive tackle] and he’s played well at both spots. He gives us some versatility there. He’s a very valuable part of our defensive front.” Coyle also said that in some situations, we'll see Will Davis as the third cornerback and in others, we'll see Jamar Taylor. Other players that will also fill numerous roles are Chris McCain and Terrence Fede. “Early in the season, particularly down here, you’re going to have to go into games where you’re going to roll people through. It’s hard to play 60, 70 plays in the conditions that we’ll be playing, especially in a game if you’re going to have to rush the passer and extend that type of energy. There’ll be different guys rolling through and those guys will certainly be part of it.”
