The linebacker position seems to be an issue every year. Whether it’s inabililty to tackle, getting swallowed up by the run, being weak in pass coverage or something else, there’s always something. This year, in 2014, it’s no different as the starting linebackers have not yet showed any flashes of promise and improvement.
That's why Joe Philbin said that the staff is still looking at various combinations to see what works best. Over the past few days, Jordan Tripp and Chris McCain have seen snaps in both the first and second team defenses.
“In regard to how soon, we’re still going to look at some other combinations this week,” Philbin said. “But the sooner the better.”
It’s a big mystery as to what’s going to end up happening with the linebacker unit come week one of the season so it is something definitely worth keeping your eye on.
