![]() Written by Matthew Cannata James Walker, the Miami Dolphins beat reporter for ESPN.com, took a look at the slot receiver position battle that will be taking place during training camp for the Miami Dolphins. The three competitors will be Brandon Gibson, Rishard Matthews and Jarvis Landry. Walker says that there are various factors that could decide who ultimately wins the job. Some of those include whether or not Brandon Gibson is healthy enough coming off major knee surgery, whether or not Matthews can take his game to the next level and be consistent every week and whether or not Landry can impress the coaches enough with his route running skills and instincts. Walker believes that Gibson will ultimately win the job but I’m not so sure. Matthews had several key moments in numerous games last year and has proven that he can make the tough catch. I am not including Landry because head coach Joe Philbin has shown a tendency in the past two years to not play rookies a lot if there are guys ahead of them that are more than capable of getting the job done. We’ll see how this plays out but my money is on Matthews.
