There's been a lot of fan reaction on social media in regards to the Miami Dolphins and their defensive collapse in the second half of the 2014 season. We've had plenty of stories on this site about defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle, including an in-depth analysis of data and numbers in regards to his performance over the past three years.

This morning, we asked fans for their opinion on whether or not Coyle should be fired. Not surprisingly, the overwhelmingly majority of responses said that he needs to go. Here are some that stood out by explaining their reasoning in detail.

@PhinManiacs Yes, scheme didn't seem to match player strengths. Adjustments were slow or non-existent.

@PhinManiacs Yes, why I don't think he coached to players strengths. Too many time I saw Vernon and Wake covering downfield

@PhinManiacs yes, I believe the inconsistency falls on his shoulders. There were also times when players didn't buy into scheme. Problem.

@PhinManiacs if he stays it's truly lame duck status for everyone. Means another 7-9 or 8-8 wasted yr

However, not everyone was ready to say that Coyle should be fired and instead, pointed out the flaws with personnel groupings and the fact that the unit had to deal with numerous injuries throughout this season. Here are two responses that made the case for Coyle to stay.

@PhinManiacs No. Because one bad year out of three, sabotaged by bad FA signings, lack of talent & injuries, should not get a coach fired.

@FinzTaint @PhinManiacs a dline filled w DE's IMO. Personnel definitely attributed to decline. Need a big body in the middle.

Joe Philbin still hasn't made his decision as to whether or not he's going to keep Coyle. After the season ended, he said he needed a week to evaluate, research and think about everything. A week has passed and we are expected to hear news one way or the other at some point this week, perhaps as soon as today.
