The one thing all of these lines have in common is they introduce a story, but more importantly they introduce a narrative around which the story is based. Like all good works of fiction, they stick to their narratives because it is in the mind of the writer that the parameters of what happens exist.
While reporting on anything, journalists try and find a narrative, something that the reader can relate to and use that to build an understanding of what is being reported. I mention this because I am about to slam the modern media on its use of narratives, but not because it is wrong to do so.
