Phins in Formation - Written by Mike Trevithick | Twitter: @denverfinfan
It was late August in 1994. I was watching my Dolphins in their third pre-season game against the Minnesota Vikings. Dan Marino was less than nine months removed from a horrible Achilles injury and watching him play was almost as painful as watching him get hurt. He seemed immobile and was picked off at least three times in one half! As soon as the game was done, the Doomsayers were out in force proclaiming “He’s Done!”
One truly awful pre-season game and I honestly was worried about the same thing. Two weeks later, in a 39-35 come from behind victory against New England, Marino proved everyone wrong, throwing for 473 yards and five touchdowns, including one of the prettiest passes I’ve ever seen to Irving Fryar on 4th & 5 with the game on the line.
