The Dolphins take their (3-7) record, and two-game winning streak, to the (2-7) New York Jets. The Dolphins have won 7 of the last 11 games against the Jets, and their defense has adjusted their play in the last four games.
News, Notes and Nuggets: -Miami has an all-time mark against the Jets of 54-55-1. On their quest to get back to .500 in 2021, they have the opportunity to pull dead even w/ the NYJ franchise. Potentially setting up a “rubber-match” later this year in Miami; a game that could be significant for these Dolphins. -Coming off two wins in five days, Miami will travel north to MetLife Stadium this week seeking a 3rd straight victory. They face the NYJ at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, and are 54-55-1 all-time against them. -Miami has won 7 of the last 11 meetings against the Jets. -Following Halloween in his tenure in Miami, Brian Flores is 14-6. He seems to exercise the demons in November and December. -Brian Flores in Miami: November: 8-3 December: 6-3 -Since Week 8, Miami is tied for 2nd in takeaways (6), tied for 3rd in sacks (9), 6th in scoring defense (15.0 ppg) & 10th in total defense (309.0 ypg). -The Dolphins defense has been improving recently, and nearing its 2020 form. The defense has held opponents under 400 yards of total offense in five consecutive games, including just 304 yards in Week 10 against Baltimore, the Ravens' lowest yardage output this season. -The Safety duo of Jevon Holland and Brandon Jones each have started the last six games. Jones is tied for 3rd on the team w/ 4 tackles for loss & tied for 5th in QB hits w/ 6. This is a Safety. -Jevon Holland is 8th among ALL rookies in tackles w/ 38 and had a sack and 2 PDs against BAL.
-LB Jerome Baker has been one of Miami's most productive players since he was selected by the 3rd round of the 2018 NFL Draft (73rd overall). He has 365 career tackles (237 solo), 12.5 sacks, 3 INTs, 13 passes defended, 5 forced fumbles and one defensive TD.
-Time to praise Christian Wilkins: -His 147 stops are the 9th most by any NFL defensive lineman since 2019. Despite being the 5th defensive lineman selected that year, Wilkins leads the position group from the 2019 draft class in tackles. -Emmanuel Ogbah has recorded 23 tackles (14 solo), 5.0 sacks, 16 QB hits, 7 passes defended, and 1 forced fumble. His 7 passes defended are one shy of his career-high and lead all NFL defensive linemen. His 16 QB hits are 10th among all NFL players. -Xavien Howard Per Game Averages. Pass Defended - 1 per game. 65 in 65 games. Xavien Howard INTS per game on his career: 0.3 Deion Sanders INTs per game on his career: 0.2 -Three people since 2020 have recorded a sack and 2 Passed Defended in 1 game. 1 of them is rookie Jevon Holland -Xavien Howard is looking for his 25th career interception. This will match his Jersey number, and likely will come in New Jersey.
-Miami's defense ranks among the NFL's best in several categories. 4th in fumble recoveries, 7th in takeaways & they lead the NFL in passes defended & are tied for 1st in QB hits. MIA is 5th in the NFL in 1st-down success rate as just 45.9% of opposing 1st-down snaps have gained 4+ yards.
-The Miami Dolphins record for receptions against the Jets is held by Jarvis Landry, with 13 back on November 29th, 2015 at NYJ.
