![]() Written by Matthew Cannata Jarvis Landry was drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft out of LSU and ever since he arrived in Miami, he's been turning heads left and right of not only the coaches, players and local media - but the fans as well and has quickly become one of the most popular players on the team. After shining in team drills on Sunday, making diving catches all over the place, he stayed on the field after practice ended and ran extra routes. He wasn't done though. After that, he went to the JUGS machine to catch passes. He wasn't done though. After taking off his pads, he caught about 60 more footballs in all different directions, not missing a single one. “If you want to be great at something, you have to work at it all the time, even if you’re good at it,” Landry said afterward. “That’s just one of my mentalities and part of my work ethic.” While many said that Landry had average speed, general manager Dennis Hickey raved about his game speed after drafting him. He's shown just that in practice so far. He's been so impressive that he has the eyes of owner Stephen Ross. During the draft process, the biggest knock on Landry was his average speed. But that has not stopped him from quickly getting noticed in Davie before Monday’s off day. “Jarvis Landry is somebody I think everybody is really excited about, speaking to the coaches,” Ross said. “He’s really going to be somebody that’s going to surprise a lot of people and really bring some excitement to this team.” Head Coach Joe Philbin followed up with more compliments. “He seems to be kind of an instinctive football player,” Philbin said. “He picks things up well. I think he reads coverages quickly and accurately, he has a knack of finding a way to get open, and so far he has displayed very good hands. He’s off to a very good start.” Landry is currently competing with Brandon Gibson, Rishard Matthews and Armon Binns to be the starting slot receiver. If he keeps up the great work over the next several weeks, he might be starting sooner than anyone had expected him to.
