Jay Ajayi signed his first contract with an NFL team today. The Miami Dolphins signed the Boise State standout to a four-year deal with a base salary of $2.5 million and can jump to a max of $2.696 million with a $220,812 bonus.
Ajayi was the first of the Miami Dolphins four fifth-round draft picks this season, and he is considered by many to be a running back with an extremely high ceiling. He accumulated 3,796 yards with an average of 5.6 yards a carry, and 50 rushing touchdowns in his three years Boise State. But Ajayi isn't limited to just being an excellent rusher, he also is rather effective in the passing game, as he gained 771 receiving yards on 73 receptions, 5 of which were for touchdowns. The only caveat with Ajayi is his knee condition. He had knee surgery in 2011 to repair severe damage that included a torn anterior cruciate ligament, and the fact that doctors found a bone-on-bone situation caused him to drop all the way to the fifth round. However, Ajayi is determined to prove that his knee will not be an issue in the future. With Ajayi signed and DeVante Parker soon to follow, it seems that the Dolphins' front office is working hard, as word is going around that there are other contracts being completed.
