Head Coach Joe Philbin spoke after practice today about the backup quarterback position and had some strong words about the situation.
“We haven’t really settled it,” Philbin said. “We’re going to go play a game in a couple days, we’re going to take a look at that. I’d hope maybe after this week we can settle in a little bit as we head in to Dallas (for the third preseason game). We’re going to use this preseason to get the right guys on the field at the right time based on the situation. I’m not really concerned about who’s No.2 at this particular point.”
Brady Quinn is here to compete for the job but admittedly, he said he doesn't know if he has enough time to make a strong push.
“I don’t know, I hope so. We’re out here working out trying to do best we can to learn. Fortunately I have some experience. [Last year in Seattle], all three of the quarterbacks played really well but they kept only two and that was the end of that,” Quinn said. “I really felt like I was playing some of my best football last preseason and I feel like I can continue that.”
Matt Moore said he wasn't told anything about why Quinn was brought in and doesn't want to speculate whether or not it's about his hefty contract.
“I feel confident in what I’ve done, the body of work I’ve put it in the spring and fall here,” Moore said. “That’s all I can do. We’ve got practices and preseason games coming up and I’m going to have opportunities I’d imagine. You’ve got to take full advantage of them. I can’t think about the money. That’s for people upstairs to figure out and make that decision based on whatever they want.”
