With starting tight end Charles Clay on the team's injury report for the game against the Oakland Raiders, the backup tight ends are likely going to be called on to step up and make plays in his place. However, head coach Joe Philbin doesn't seem concerned with this.
"I think Dion (Sims) has contributed nicely in the first three games." Joe Philbin said, "He’s a little bit different body type than Charles (Clay) as you can tell. So he doesn’t do exactly the same things all the time you know. I think that’s part of game planning. You have to utilize the strengths and the skills of your particular players that you have."
But Sims isn't the only player the Dolphins have to call on. Philbin also had some nice things to say about rookie Gator Hoskins.
"I think Gator Hoskins is a young player that’s developing. He hasn’t gotten a lot of battlefield action yet in the regular season games. He is athletic and he is very smart.”
Joe Philbin has been very hesitant to call on his young players to take on a greater amount of responsibility in the past, but with Clay hurting, he may not have much of a choice. We will all see what Philbin decides to do in London to make up for Clay's absence.
