![]() Written by Matthew Cannata | Twitter: @PhinManiacs Last year, the Miami Dolphins averaged 19.4 points per game and ranked 26th in the league. This year, Joe Philbin wants the team to average 25 points per game, which would put them just about in the top ten of the league if you’re looking at last year’s averages. “I've always kind of started with 25 (point average), but that gets you to 400 points of the season if my math is correct,” Philbin said. “That's always a barometer. I think you study the league for a long time, you would say if you score 400 points a year you would have a reasonably productive offense. ' The last time the Dolphins just about scored an average of 25 points per game was in 1995 when they averaged 24.9. At that time, that was good enough for seventh in the league. If the Dolphins are able to score 25 points per game, the Dolphins should have no problem making the playoffs unless of course, they are involved in many shootouts throughout the year where their defense can’t hold up their end of the team.
