![]() Written by Matthew Cannata The NFL recently held their Rookie Symposium, which is a chance for them to give the rookies an introduction to life playing the most popular sport in the world. All too often, we see talented players come into the league and come across millions of dollars only to find themselves in trouble since they don’t know how to spend it and invest it the proper way. That’s why this is held each year and despite the fact that there are still those who get into trouble year after year, it does make an impact on the majority of players and sets the foundation for their NFL career. The players are lectured each day by current and former players, coaches, general managers, team doctors, nutritionists and more. They are broken down into groups and meet with current and former players in what they call breakdown sessions. The NFL also mixes it up and allows for some light-hearted activities, such as trivia and other games, where prizes such as footballs and BOSE stereo systems are given away. Ironically, Dion Jordan, who attended the rookie symposium last year, seems to have not taken the message seriously as he was recently suspended four games for taking a banned substance. Let’s hope that he learns from his mistakes and the Dolphins rookies this year not only learn from the Rookie Symposium, but from Jordan’s mistakes as well.
