![]() Written by Matthew Cannata With training camp just a little over a week away, James Walker of ESPN.com took a look at the running back position and what we might see as camp unfolds. Walker lists Lamar Miller and Knowshon Moreno as the two main competitors. While Walker says that Miller only rushed for 709 yards and two touchdowns last year, he doesn’t take into account the horrendous offensive line and the fact that the Dolphins abandoned the run way too much last year. He states that Moreno is coming from the Super Bowl champions and had a great year but then again, what running back struggles when your quarterback is Peyton Manning? With defenses expecting the pass almost every down, it’s easy for a running back to make things happen in that offense. With all due to respect to Walker, I don’t believe that Moreno is a viable candidate to take away the starting job from Miller. Miller is faster, shiftier and fits Bill Lazor’s offense to a tee. Moreno is well-known for his pass blocking skills as well as catching balls out of the backfield. In my opinion, the Dolphins brought him to Miami for obvious passing situations so he can help protect Ryan Tannehill and in certain situations that calls for passes out of the backfield. I don’t expect this to be much of a competition but as they all say, you never know until the pads come on so we will see if this turns out to be a true battle.
