![]() Written by Matthew Cannata | Twitter: @PhinManiacs In his weekly press conference, defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle talked about his defense and the various communication problems that happened throughout the game. More specifically, the fact that Sammy Watkins was able to catch 8 passes for 117 yards and 1 touchdown was bothersome for Coyle and he noted that those issues need to be fixed. "They hit on a couple of crossing routes. They hit on an over route [that was a] miscommunication. Sammy Watkins is one of the most impressive receivers I’ve seen in a long time. We’ll do a better job against him next time we play.” “We gave up some explosive plays in the game, which concern me. We’ve got to get that fixed. We did a very good job [in the run game], with the exception of one play that broke out. We limited a good rushing team to 3.4 yards per carry. They were third in the league in rushing last year... Some, including me, were criticizing the lack of pass rush but Coyle defended it and explained what happened. “They ran some quick screens and quick outs. There weren’t opportunities for any of the rushers to have multiple opportunities to rush the passer. We didn’t create as many third and longs as we would like to. You’ve got to be concerned with them running the ball.” The defense played well for the majority of the game but there was only so much they could do after the offense continually put them in bad positions. Out of all three areas, the defense was the least to blame for the Dolphins loss against the Bills on Sunday.
