![]() Written by Matthew Cannata The Monday Morning Quarterback is doing special series on the artifacts of the NFL and in their latest post, they talk about Don Shula's game plans from the 1972 season. As we all know, the 1972 season ended with a perfect record of 17-0. No one in NFL history did it before and up to this point, no one has done it after. The closest team to do it in recent memory were the New England Patriots, who had an undefeated record going into the Super Bowl. However, with a lot of luck and a miraculous catch, the New York Giants defeated the Patriots in that game to end their bid for the second perfect season in NFL history. I think it's safe to say that every Dolphins fan in the world were even bigger Giants fans that night throughout the entire game. “Nobody did it in the 40 years before we did it, and nobody has done it in the 40 years since,” Shula says. “When you think about it that way, it just stands by itself.” All 17 game plans from that season are carefully filed away in a safe in Shula’s Miami Beach home, the blueprints of history.
