The Miami Dolphins announced their Year End Team Awards on Tuesday.
Dan Marino Most Valuable Player Award- Xavien Howard
Don Shula Leadership Award - Ryan Fitzpatrick
Ed Block Courage Award - Bobby McCain
Nat Moore Community Service Award - The Miami Dolphins Social Impact Committee - Byron Jones, Patrick Laird, Elandon Roberts, Kyle Van Noy, and Christian Wilkins
Xavien Howard is the first Dolphins player to win multiple team MVP awards since Ricky Williams in 2009. Howard tied the franchise record with 10 interceptions, matching Dick Westmoreland’s total in 1967. He’s the first NFL player since 2007 (Antonio Cromartie) to record double-digit interceptions in a season.
Howard is the 8th player to win the Dan Marino Team MVP award at least twice, joining Bob Griese, Larry Csonka, Dan Marino, Zach Thomas, O.J. McDuffie, Jason Taylor and Ricky Williams.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is the winner of the Don Shula Leadership Award, voted on by teammates, as he was in 2019. He is the 9th player to earn the honor multiple times. Others- Marino, Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, Junior Seau, Derrick Rodgers, Karlos Dansby, Mike Pouncey & Cameron Wake
Bobby McCain wins the team’s Ed Block Courage Award and is only the 4th safety to earn the honor in MIA history. Yeremiah Bell, Liffort Hobley and Glenn Blackwood. McCain injured his shoulder in 2019 and he returned in 2020 to play all 16 games, starting in 15.
A defensive captain, McCain was an anchor of the NFL's leader in takeaways (29) and 3rd-down defense (31.2%) while finishing 6th in scoring defense (21.1 ppg). Each year, all 32 teams select a player to receive the Ed Block Courage Award. The recipient symbolizes professionalism, great strength and dedication. The honoree also is a community role model. Bobby McCain exemplifies all these things.
At 10-6, it was a terrific season for these Miami Dolphins, who are young enough overall to be building a long-term success story.
Thank you for a great season.
