The Miami Dolphins are doing their research and making contact with BYU running back Paul Lasike and Texas Southern cornerback Tray Walker. This news comes courtesy of the Sun-Sentinel and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
Both players are projected to be undrafted free agents and neither were featured in the PhinManiacs Draft Guide. There isn't much out there in regards to Lasike. He came to BYU from New Zealand to play rugby but ended up being recruited to the football team, where he was developed and refined. Last season, he rushed for 364 yards on 79 carries. Coming out of the backfield in the passing game, he caught 25 passes for 267 yards. Some, like CBS Sports, are projecting him to be a fullback at the next level if he is able to catch on with a team.
In regards to Walker, Lance Zierlein of NFL.com describes him in this way: "Very tall press cornerback with the length to disrupt and stymie weaker wide receivers. Walker's traits will have NFL teams extremely interested, but with a lack of deep speed and a great deal of growth and experience needed, teams might decide to play a waiting game on him and see if he's open as a priority free agent after the draft."
All teams kick the tires and do their research on projected undrafted free agents so the Dolphins are just doing their due dilgence. We'll see if either of these players catch on with the team once the draft is completed if in fact they aren't selected by anyone else on draft weekend.
