Oakland Raiders rookie quarterback Derek Carr has attempted completed 68 of 108 passes for a 63% completion percentage. He has thrown for 588 yards with an average of 5.44 yards per completion. He has three touchdowns and three interceptions. If you think about it, he's pretty much exactly what Ryan Tannehill is this year in terms of stats, but we all know that Tannehill's stats have been negatively affected by various things, although some can be put on him as well.
Just because he’s a rookie though doesn’t mean the Miami Dolphins are taking him lightly.
“He seems to have a good presence about him for a young player,” Joe Philbin said. “You can see the quick release that he had. He does have both velocity and touch. He doesn’t seem to get real flustered out there for a young guy. So he’s off to a good start.”
Cameron Wake said that the Raiders have a very dynamic offense and can put the defense in tough situations at times.
“They are a very dynamic offense. Obviously they’ve got a lot of different pieces of the puzzle that are good at what they do. He gets the ball in the hands of playmakers. He’s obviously protected well in the past few games, and that’s something that we definitely have to change in this upcoming game.”
When asked if he and others would be anxious to force him to make mistakes and whether they would be able to capitalize on their mistakes, he didn’t bite.
“I mean mistakes or rookie mistakes, what’s the difference? If you see that in any game that you watch, whether it is a 10-year vet or a first-year guy, you have to capitalize on it regardless of who it is, what position it is. We’ve had that situation come up in our own games. We’ve got to take that out, whether it is offense, defense or special teams. Minimizing those mistakes for yourself and capitalizing on them when your opposition makes them is always going to be key.”
The Dolphins are in no position to be taking any quarterback lightly, especially since every single one of them playing in the NFL are extremely talented. If they do though, they could be in for a rude awakening as the Raiders slash and dash through their defense
