Miami Dolphins select running back Jay Ajayi in fifth round of the draft

With the 13th pick in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins have selected running back Jay Ajayi from Boise State. In his career at Boise State, he rushed for 3,796 career rushing yards; 771 career receiving yards and 55 career touchdowns. Here is the scouting report from the PhinManiacs Draft Guide. 

Jay Ajayi is a power back who has all the potential in the world if he can work out some kinks in his game. No defender wants to see Ajayi rolling downhill towards them.

He’ll beat you in so many different ways at contact. He’ll run you over, spin off of you, and stiff arm you. His balance is clearly on an elite level. Ajayi takes on contact without even the thought of being phased.

He’s in great control of his body as a runner. His lower and upper body work together to get rid of defenders. The Boise State offense centered on Ajayi in both the running and receiving game. The Bronco system forced him to run different routes and he has very soft hands. The footwork is text book.

There are times when Ajayi bounces the run outside when he should just barrel through the middle. He’s not an overly exciting athlete as he may not test well in speed and explosion drills. Ajayi is an old school runner that doesn’t need much help up front in order to pick up yardage.
