![]() Miami Dolphins Press Release The Miami Dolphins and the Humane Society of Broward County teamed up today to spread awareness about responsible pet ownership in a visit to the Lester H. White Boys & Girls Club. Humane Society Chairman of the Board Gerald Weber introduced Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey and tackle Jason Fox, as well as Miami Dolphins Women’s Organization members Diane Philbin (wife of Head Coach Joe Philbin) and JoAnne O’Keefe (wife of Wide Receivers Coach Ken O’Keefe) who engaged with more than 100 Boys & Girls Club members and interacted with pet ambassadors. Fox could relate to the young kids and said he was excited to be at the event. “I grew up with dogs. They’re great pets. I had two growing up and they’re the best dogs in the world.” He added, “Me and my brother, we had a lot of responsibilities with the dog. We enjoyed playing with him, but that’s part of having dogs is taking care of them.” A long-time lover of pets, Pouncey told the kids gathered, “Make sure you take these tips. I grew up with pets and I still have pets today. We have two labs: a chocolate lab and a black lab.” The kids listened and answered questions on ways to take care of pets and the responsibilities that come with ownership. Philbin chimed in that all pets, not just cats and dogs, can make a happy household. “We have six kids and we’ve only had a guinea pig. He did bring a lot of love to our house.” She added, “Pets are a wonderful thing, but they do require a lot of hard work and you just have to be very responsible.” O’Keefe weighed in on how pets can really impact a kid’s life, “My kids grew up with dogs and every dog is different just like you’re all different.” She spoke on the importance of getting to know each pet and being safe around strangers’ pets. “They really are good buddies for everybody at home too.”
