The Miami Dolphins organization was born in 1966 thanks to the vision of a lawyer of Lebanese descent known as Joe Robbie, and on Saturday afternoon, the team revealed what they plan to do to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this historic franchise. The Dolphins went out of their way to bring in players from the past to share their experiences during their time in aqua and orange; Bob Griese, Nat Moore, and Sam Madison were the alumni on hand that came to celebrate the organization's 50 years. But more impressive than that was the arrival of the winningest head coach in NFL history, none other than the legendary Don Shula himself. Shula made jokes and spoke of how much it meant to him be a member of the Miami Dolphins organization, and it was made very clear that even at 85 years old, he had a very vibrant spirit that was quite honestly infectious. There were many things that were unveiled over the course of the conference, which included a 50th anniversary patch which will be on all Dolphins merchandise, social media, campaigns of all kinds, and of course they will be present on all of the jerseys of the players this upcoming year. Speaking of the jerseys, everyone has been kept in suspense for months regarding the talk of a brand new alternate uniform that would be unveiled this season, and many speculated that CEO Tom Garfinkel was not being entirely truthful when he said the jerseys would not be orange like many were thinking they would be. Today, it was revealed that Garfinkel was indeed telling the truth, and the uniforms were not orange like some were hoping. However, given the theme of this season, it was much more fitting that the alternate uniform would be a throwback to the original uniforms worn by the 1966 Miami Dolphins. A coffee table book, and its foreword will be written by Don Shula himself, and it will feature stories from Dolphins from every era, ranging from the birth of the franchise to the present day, as well as an image of Dan Marino's rookie contract, among other important items in Dolphins history. There will also be an opportunity for the fans to join in on the 50th anniversary fun, as the Dolphins announced the launching of the "Since" campaign, where fans will be able to use #SinceMoment on Twitter or other social media sites to show when it was that the Dolphins became a part of their lives. Finally, a poll will take place between fans, alumni, and other important members of the Miami Dolphins organization to figure out who are the top fifty players in Dolphins history. Obvious names that come to mind will likely be Dan Marino and Jason Taylor, but the fans will get a chance to give their input as well. They did mention that they weren't going to unveil everything though, as they wanted to keep an air of mystery around the things that they hadn't yet shown us, so it was made very clear that there was still more that the team is aiming to do for the anniversary season. It was a day of great laughs and reminiscing on the glory days, and through this celebration of fifty years of the existence of the Miami Dolphins, the organization is hoping to set the stage for another fifty years of what could soon be another truly glorious era of Dolphins football.
