Welcome to Juice’s Jumbo Board where each week I highlight an Impact player the Miami Dolphins Can target in next Year's NFL Draft. After Picking up 11 players in the 2020 draft, the Dolphins look to build their organization through the 2021 draft and compete in the postseason. Currently the Dolphins hold the following picks not counting compensatory picks (November 3rd Update):
RD1: Pick 4 (From Houston) RD1: Pick 16 RD2: Pick 35 (From Houston) RD2: Pick 49 RD3: Pick 80 RD4: Pick 113 (Swap with Las Vegas) RD4: Pick 144 (Swap with Las Vegas) RD6: Pick 204 (From Houston) RD6: Pick 217 (From Pittsburgh) RD7:Pick 240 Micah Parsons is a great athlete and is an elite college player. Versatility is his game and can play at any LB and EDGE. Speaking of versatility- a Brian Flores staple it’s what the Miami Dolphins would lick their chops at. The dolphins would benefit to draft him. He’s a great player, a top pick in this upcoming draft and is a perfect pairing for this team.Which is why I think the dolphins would draft him with their first pick from Houston. Taking a deep dive into Parsons skills set On an Interview with Jordan Reid from The Draft Network he says “I’m originally a defensive end. I’m sitting at 250 pounds right now. I can put on more weight to be a defensive end or I can drop the weight to be a linebacker, but I think that’s just part of my value. I am a true defensive end. I just have enough athletic ability and enough intellectual ability to play linebacker at a high level. So, I think, whether it’s a 3-4 or a 4-3, if you want me at outside D-end, I can really do it all. I’m willing to do it all, I just need an opportunity.” Hearing that, Dolphins fan, I’m already in love with him. Doing whatever is needed to make sure the team wins. A team first player. The Dolphins will defiantly do their homework on him after opting out of the 2020 college season due to COVID-19
But… But… But.. we already have Linebackers. You are right but it is a big need in the coming off-season as both Elandon Roberts and Kamu Grugier-Hill are FA’s after the season. Leaving a depth of Baker, KVN, AVG, Eguavoen and Biegel. Miami would be looking to get another LB to pair up with Baker and KVN and bolster the DL as an EDGE Rusher. In a pass-first league, a linebacker has to be great in coverage, Parsons does just that and is able to be a three down starter in this defense as he excels against the pass. Whether it be in toe to toe stride in man coverage or holding ground and covering flats in zone, Parsons is able to hold his own in coverage. As a pass rusher, Parsons has a knack for going through the gaps to get pressure on the Quarterback and close. In run support, Parsons has quick instincts to read what the offense is giving him and correctly reacting to it. He’s able to use his vision and quickness to get through the holes in the line and tackle for losses or minimize yardage. His vision is key in the run game, similar to Elandon Roberts who excels in run support, and Parsons is fast and able to break against due to his size and athleticism. The only thing based on film Parsons needs to work on is using his body to properly chase down and tackle Running Backs on outside stretch runs, other than that Parsons is polished to be a Modern Day Linebacker. He’s fast in the EDGE position and able to cog the middle of the Field as a LB. At Penn State he flashed his entire skill-set and LB needy teams are hungry for a player like Parsons. You could see Penn State Misses Parson in the previous 2 games as he was very functional, able to beat blocks, make the first tackle, penetrate the O-line, and work on opposing teams Rb’s and TE’s. I Expect him to go within the Top 10, and fortunately enough with Houston’s first rounder the Dolphins would be picking 4th. Expect to hear Parsons and Dolphins connected throughout the draft process Dolphins fans. Please welcome Hussam Patel to PhinManiacs and please give him a follow on Twitter @AirXAlpha1721
