The Miami Dolphins met with and worked out Old Dominion quarterback Tyler Heinicke as part of their pre-draft process. This news comes courtesy of Simon Clancy, Deputy Editor of BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
Last season, Heinicke completed 289 of 457 passes for 3,476 yards, 30 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. In 2013, he completed 340 of 486 passes for 4,022 yards, 33 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.
Despite those solid stats, Heinicke is expected to either be selected towards the end of the draft or become an undrafted free agent. Because of that, he was not featured in the PhinManiacs Draft Guide. According to Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, Heinicke has the ball placement and accuracy of an NFL backup when he's protected and dealing, but his small stature combined with his inability to drive the ball and make NFL throws could be hard to overcome once he gets into an NFL camp. Zierlein says that Heinicke must play in a timing-based system to have a chance of being on an NFL roster.
