When the Dolphins take the field for their first preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons on August 8, one battle worth watching will be the return specialist position. Marcus Thigpen, who's held that job the past two seasons, is in severe danger of losing a spot ont the roster not only because of his disappointing 2013 season but also because of his inability to improve as a running back in the offense over the past two years.
The competition? That will be between Thigpen, Damian Williams, Jarvis Landry and Rantavious Wooten. One of the most dangerous names on that list for Thigpen is Landry. If Landry proves that he can handle the job, there is no doubt that the Dolphins will part ways with Thigpen.
"There are more options on the roster for that job than we've had in a while," said Rizzi, who is beginning his fourth season as Miami's special teams coordinator. Landry is definitely one of the options we're looking at for sure. Obviously the guy has got good hands. The question is whether or not he can do it in game time? That's going to be the biggest thing with him, when the bullets are flying."
