The news about Mike Pouncey’s injury just got worse. According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the best-case scenario for Pouncey going into surgery was to miss three months, which meant he would miss all the games in September.
A source who spoke to Salguero said that he will more likely miss four months from the time of the surgery on June 23, which would mean eight weeks of the 2014 season. Since the Dolphins have a bye the weekend of October 4-5, he would miss a total of seven games.
Of course, if Pouncey can rehab quickly and get stronger again, that timeframe can be cut in half. If he has a high tolerance for pain and is willing to play through it, it could cut the time in half.
While Pouncey will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list, the Dolphins can activate him to the roster or place him on the regular season PUP at the end of training camp. That decision will give us a better idea of how he is doing and how much time he will end up missing.
