In what feels like a desert of Miami Dolphins news yesterday we got a small oasis of football news. So, here are the three things that you may want to know.
Ian Rapoport reports the Dolphins may not be done moving in the 1st round with the 6th overall pick they acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles. As we know, Dolphins GM Chris Grier is always willing to make a deal, but the price needs to be right. Whether this is just jockeying for position or there is a fire causing all this smoke we will all find out April 29th.
The Dolphins for the second time this offseason made a move at right tackle. This time the Dolphins signed free agent veteran DJ Fluker. Fluker was drafted in the 1st round of the 2013 draft at 6’5” and 342 he is a whole lot of human for defenders to try to go through. Whether this is just camp competition, or a move to make sure Tua’s blindside is protected, we shall see. One interesting note is that Fluker spent last season on the Ravens on an O-line that included Matt Skura, another free agent the Dolphins signed this offseason.
The least surprising bit of news we were given today was that Nik Needham officially re-signed with the Dolphins. This move was previously reported but is now official. A fan favorite, Needham enters his 3rd year as a Dolphin. A UDFA from the University of Texas El Paso Needham rose to fans attention as he finished the last 12 games of the 2019 season with highlights that included two interceptions, a sack, a forced fumble and 54 tackles to cap off his rookie campaign. Last year, Needham in a slot-role still came away with a sack & a pair of interceptions. Whether Needham can still beat the odds this year remains to be seen but, if his track record shows anything, he will not go softly to the bench. While competition is tough, anyone challenging for Needham’s spot better bring their "A" game.
