The draft history behind the Miami Dolphins and DeVante Parker

When the Miami Dolphins selected Louisville wide receiver DeVante Parker in the first round of the NFL Draft, new anecdotes were set in franchise history and some anecdotes were revised and updated. The following information comes to us courtesy of the Miami Dolphins Public Relations Department.

• Parker is the first Louisville Cardinal to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft by the Dolphins.
  

• Parker is the second player the Dolphins have selected in team history with the 14th overall pick of the first round. The other player selected in the 14th position was linebacker Jackie Shipp from Oklahoma in 1984.
  

• Parker becomes the 59th wide receiver the Dolphins have selected in the NFL draft. The last player listed as a wide receiver drafted by the team was Matt Hazel, who was selected in the fifth round (164th overall) of the 2013 NFL draft.
  

• Parker is the first player from Louisville to be selected by the Dolphins since the team chose Sam Madison, who was picked in the second round (44th overall) in the 1997 draft. He is the sixth player from Louisville and second wide receiver to be selected by Miami in the franchise’s history. Other Cardinals that have been drafted by Miami include: Sam Madison, Ron Davenport, Dean May, Mark Clayton and Larry Ball.
  

• With the selection of DeVante Parker, 2015 marks the first time since 2007 that the Dolphins have selected a wide receiver with their first round selection. The last wide receiver taken in the first round was Ted Ginn, who was selected with the ninth overall pick in 2007.
  

• Parker becomes the fifth wide receiver the Dolphins have selected in the first round of the NFL Draft in the history of the franchise. The other four wide receivers that have been selected in the first round of the NFL Draft are: Ted Ginn, Yatil Green, O.J. McDuffie and Randall Hill.
