Two days ago during the Miami Dolphins backpack giveaway event at Dave & Busters, I had the pleasure of watching the players and their families have fun in the arcade with all of the students, and that got me thinking: What kind of games did they enjoy when they were growing up, and what kind of games do they enjoy now? Have you ever wondered? So I made it my personal mission to find every player who was in attendance and ask then that very question.
For punter Brandon Fields, he really enjoyed playing the classic Super Mario games as a child, but now that he's grown up and has himself a new baby to take care of he said he doesn't really get much time to relax with a good game. But if and when he has a little time to kill, he usually picks up his iPAD and plays a few games there.
Utility offensive lineman Nate Garner was more into Skeeball as a kid, and these days he'll torment himself with a game sometimes called Slam-A-Winner where a bouncy ball will fall from the top and eventually fall into one of several multicolored holes. It's the ultimate test of luck and it can get pretty frustrating when the ball never lands where it's supposed to, but to each their own.
Offensive tackle Jason Fox's tastes haven't really changed since he was a kid, he still enjoys the likes of Skeeball, basketball and pretty much any kind of game where there's a competition involved. No wonder he became a football player, haha.
Another Skeeball enthusiast as a child is kicker Caleb Sturgis, who now likes to spend time doing the arcade basketball games (or Super Shot as it's sometimes called), and there's a video below of him competing against A.J. Francis, Seth Lobato, Sam Brenner and Jason Fox to prove it.
Guard Sam Brenner also said that Skeeball was a game he enjoyed as a child (I think I'm seeing a pattern here), specifically whenever he played against his father. Nowadays he likes to relax with a good game of either Madden (with the Dolphins as his team I'm sure, haha) or FIFA World Cup.
Long snapper John Denney probably gave the most unique answers; when he was growing up he really enjoyed playing the likes of Contra or Tecmo Bowl, but now he prefers to play some good old-fashioned Mario Kart with his family.
Defensive tackle A.J. Francis is quite a character, and he showed his enthusiasm for everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) he does as he played a game he really enjoyed as a kid, Guitar Hero, the video of him playing the game with Seth Lobato can be seen below. He also really enjoys playing FIFA as well, a theme that seems to be recurring with the Dolphins players.
Speaking of Lobato, the quarterback enjoyed playing Madden and NCAA football with his brother as a kid, and today he also enjoys FIFA a lot, I did say it was a recurring theme.
Last but most certainly not least, linebacker Jason Trusnik pointed out a specific game when asked his favorite childhood game: Mario Kart 64 was one of his favorites. Nowadays, he would much rather watch his kids play the games at Dave and Busters or wherever they are at the time.
It's little things like this that remind us that these football players are more than just football players. They're people, fathers and husbands with families and they enjoy doing the same things that any other person enjoys. Need any more proof? Well here are a few videos showing the players playing some games (Click the read more button to your lower right to view the videos). I hope you enjoy!
Clearly, this is NOT TD's favorite game, haha!
