Evan Mathis, Pro Bowl guard, was released by the Philadelphia Eagles last week. His name has been linked to the Miami Dolphins over the past several months, even though the Dolphins haven't shown much interest in trading for him. The link is there though because Miami desperately needs an upgrade at the guard position and Mathis would be able to come right in and become one of the best players on the offensive line.
While the Dolphins weren't interested in trading for him, likely due to his contract structure this year and beyond, they do have interest in him now that he's a free agent on the market. He is represented by Drew Rosenhaus, who has many current and former Dolphins' players as clients. Mathis also used to play for the Dolphins before they cut him following the 2008 season. The connections are there but Mathis will want to make money so this will surely turn into a bidding war. To gauge the feelings of pursuing Mathis, we asked our followers on Twitter what they thought. Should the Dolphins pursue Mathis? Why or why not? The response was overwhelmingly positive but there were a few who want to be cautious, especially because they feel that someone will need to be cut next year to make up for his salary.
