Twitter reaction: Should the Miami Dolphins pursue Evan Mathis?

Evan Mathis, Pro Bowl guard, was released by the Philadelphia Eagles last week. His name has been linked to the Miami Dolphins over the past several months, even though the Dolphins haven't shown much interest in trading for him. The link is there though because Miami desperately needs an upgrade at the guard position and Mathis would be able to come right in and become one of the best players on the offensive line.

While the Dolphins weren't interested in trading for him, likely due to his contract structure this year and beyond, they do have interest in him now that he's a free agent on the market. He is represented by Drew Rosenhaus, who has many current and former Dolphins' players as clients. Mathis also used to play for the Dolphins before they cut him following the 2008 season. The connections are there but Mathis will want to make money so this will surely turn into a bidding war.

To gauge the feelings of pursuing Mathis, we asked our followers on Twitter what they thought. Should the Dolphins pursue Mathis? Why or why not? The response was overwhelmingly positive but there were a few who want to be cautious, especially because they feel that someone will need to be cut next year to make up for his salary.

@PhinManiacs Mathis improves multiple pos and can help teach the young OGs on the team. If we are in win now mode, go get the Pro Bowl G

@PhinManiacs Absolutely, provided Aponte can work some more SalCap magic. RT17 cannot continue to be the most-sacked QB in NFL much longer.

— Thomas (@nashmax73) June 15, 2015

@PhinManiacs Mia invested in Tanny and into offensive weapons but only drafted one G to compete to start. Weapons useless w/o protection.

@PhinManiacs the only downside is it would mean less carryover to next year's cap when we need every dollar in cap space we can get

— Bryan Bacni (@BryanBacni) June 15, 2015

@PhinManiacs age & $ only 2 reason to quest Mathis in Miami.Def need for him but w/OV & Miller needing contracts where is $ coming from ?

— Eric Carlson (@jec7313) June 15, 2015

@PhinManiacs Money. Mathis wants a lot of it, and does he commit to excellence if he gets it?

— Eldon Jenson (@EJFootball) June 15, 2015

@PhinManiacs his production within the system Miami's currently implements is well documented. Miami's issues at guard are well known, too

— Dave (@Finalytical) June 15, 2015

@PhinManiacs same conditions as the Mosley signing...Need! May be most important move on that side of ball.

— Da Mick (@magnisonave) June 15, 2015

@PhinManiacs Absolutely, this is a win now move. @MiamiDolphins invested nearly 100 mil in a QB. Now protect him.

— Bennett NYC (@R_Bennettjr) June 15, 2015

@PhinManiacs Yes! Not only would he make this O line legit again, he'd help mentor Billy Turner, and whoever starts at LT in place of Albert

— Freddie Brown (@fabrownii718) June 15, 2015

@PhinManiacs tough call. Clearly need him. But who goes cut next year because of it? Wake and/or Grimes?

— Dave (@dmb132000) June 15, 2015

@PhinManiacs I think he is demanding a big deal like 3 years big chunk guarantee. He is older and missed 7 games. That is why he is a FA
