Bucky Brooks, NFL Media Analyst for NFL.com, recently released his position rankings throughout the NFL. Brooks, who was a former scout for the Seattle Seahawks under Mike Holmgren, ranked Charles Clay as the seventh best hybrid tight end in the NFL.
Clay, who has been in the NFL for four years, is 6’3 and 255 pounds. Brooks says that Clay can be compared to an oversized receiver, showing sneaky strength and power with the ball in his hands. Brooks loves Clay’s athleticism and versatility as he is able to set up at the line of scrimmage, in the slot or even in the backfield.
Brooks believes that Clay needs to improve on his route running skills. Despite that, he says that he is very tough to cover in space and thinks that he can make the next step from being good to great in 2014.
Ranked ahead of Clay were Martellus Bennett, Julius Thomas, Jordan Cameron, Rob Gronkowski, Vernon Davis and Jimmy Graham. Ranked behind him in the top ten were Greg Olsen, Jared Cook and Antonio Gates.
